Services

Engineering support across the full project lifecycle

From strategy and master planning through concept and detailed design to construction, commissioning and take-over. The work is civil and hydraulic engineering; mechanical, electrical and ICA disciplines are coordinated and reviewed, not designed in house. Delivered in English or Croatian, remotely or on site.

Hydraulic modelling

Steady state and extended period simulation of potable, recycled and sewer networks. Model build, calibration, scenario testing and optioneering for capacity, pressure management and phasing.

  • EPANET
  • Bentley WaterGEMS
  • SewerGEMS
  • SWMM

Surge and transient analysis

Transient assessment of trunk mains and pumping systems, sizing of surge protection and de-risking of capital designs before construction. Analyses delivered on mains up to 13.2 km.

  • Bentley HAMMER
  • Surge vessels
  • Pump trip scenarios

Design assurance and technical review

Independent review of design deliverables against employer requirements, standards and constructability. Multidisciplinary comments consolidated into a single aligned position for the delivery team.

  • Concept to detailed design
  • Employer requirements
  • Review close-out

Network and pipeline design

Water supply, recycled water and sewerage schemes: rising mains, gravity sewers, district metered areas, storm and sanitary analysis, bills of quantities and design risk assessment.

  • Potable and TSE
  • Foul and storm
  • SuDS

Reservoirs, tanks and pumping stations

Storage and pumping design and review, from booster stations and storm holding tanks to strategic reservoirs, including pump duty selection, operating levels and hydraulic profiles.

  • Storage to 225,000 m³
  • Booster stations
  • Hydraulic profiles

Commissioning, take-over and interfaces

Commissioning support, method statement and O&M review, snag lists, walkthroughs and handover of completed assets from construction to operations, plus interface management between design, construction and client teams.

  • Snagging and walkthroughs
  • O&M manuals
  • Stakeholder interface

Experience

Led by Matija Oliver, chartered civil engineer

Civil engineer with an MSc in hydraulic engineering, chartered with the Croatian Chamber of Civil Engineers (HKIG) and a member of Engineers Ireland (MIEI). His work is in civil and hydraulic engineering for water infrastructure. The record below covers work delivered in his engineering roles to date.

Aug 2022 to present
NEOM, Saudi Arabia
Oxagon, Archipelago & Magna

Technical Interface Manager, Water Infrastructure

An 8 billion SAR (about 2 billion euro) water infrastructure programme
  • Directs a multidisciplinary team of six Principal Engineers (structural, mechanical, hydraulic, civil, electrical, ICA) providing technical assurance for potable transmission, distribution and storage, and for recycled water (TSE) distribution across three NEOM regions.
  • Lead reviewer for more than 70,000 documents across 30+ projects annually, from strategy and master plans to detailed design, construction, commissioning and take-over documentation, consolidating conflicting multidisciplinary feedback into single aligned positions.
  • Delivered around 2.5 million euro in construction cost savings by reviewing and hydraulically optimising the Zone N sitewide network, reducing pipe sizes through simple pressure control validated in the hydraulic model.
  • Authored the hydraulic modelling guidelines adopted as the reference document for potable network design across the programme.
  • Developed and presented a network resiliency calculation methodology at the Optimatics conference in London, combining burst simulation and isolation to repair sequences with hazard likelihood to quantify customer minutes lost.
  • Led an energy recovery feasibility study assessing inline turbines as an alternative to pressure reducing valves.
  • Established the take-over function for completed assets; 11 assets handed over from construction to operations to date.
Dec 2017 to Aug 2022
Ryan Hanley Ltd., Ireland
incl. Stantec UK secondment, 2021

Senior Project Engineer

Irish Water schemes and UK wastewater modelling
  • Delivered hydraulic design, surge analysis and pumping station and reservoir design on major Irish Water schemes, covering rising mains to DN900, pumping stations to 510 l/s and storm storage to 1,230 m³.
  • Carried out surge and transient analyses on trunk mains up to 13.2 km, confirming surge protection requirements and de-risking capital designs prior to construction.
  • Led planning applications, CPO reporting, design risk assessments and statutory and client liaison on multi-stakeholder schemes.
  • On secondment to Stantec UK, built baseline hydraulic models for three wastewater treatment works (around 660,000 PE combined) and identified optimisation measures adopted into asset improvement plans.
Feb 2014 to Nov 2017
Hidro Consult, Rijeka, Croatia

Project Engineer

Coastal water supply and sewerage
  • Designed water supply and sewerage schemes exceeding 20 km of pipeline across coastal Croatia, including pump stations, storm tanks and CSO structures, from feasibility through detailed design and bills of quantities.
  • Developed a CCTV survey based rehabilitation strategy for 5.3 km of sewer and 3.3 km of water network in Pula, using multi-criteria analysis to select the most cost effective technologies.
  • Contributed to the design of the Stoja Pula wastewater treatment plant (104,000 PE), including load calculations and 3D design.
